An Apple Dictation alternative for your Mac
Apple Dictation is included with macOS. TypeSeer adds spoken translation, optional text preview and AI autocomplete in one app. Here is how to choose.
When built-in Apple Dictation is enough
If you want to speak a message or document in the same language, start with Apple Dictation. It already supports spoken punctuation and commands such as “new line”. On supported configurations, general text dictation runs on your device.
Check the Dictation section in your Mac’s Keyboard settings for its processing details. Features vary by language and region. See Apple’s Dictation guide for current requirements and commands.
What TypeSeer adds
TypeSeer combines Mac dictation with writing assistance for the times you prefer to type. Speech recognition uses macOS technology. The difference is the workflow around it.

Choose TypeSeer for a combined writing workflow
- Draft aloud, then edit quietly. Stop dictation and use autocomplete while revising in the same app.
- Write in a second language. Use dictation with translation for supported language pairs.
- Review before inserting. Turn off “Type as I speak” when you prefer to check each phrase first.
- Keep the whole paragraph in view. Dictate directly into your document and pause to think without ending TypeSeer’s session.
Compare using your own documents
Try the same paragraph, names and punctuation with both tools. Count the corrections and time needed to finish your document. A recognisable transcript still needs checking before you send it.
Use the microphone and apps you normally work with. Compare the time spent writing and correcting. The free trial lets you judge whether TypeSeer’s extra workflow features help.
Requirements and offline use
TypeSeer dictation and translation need an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later. Autocomplete also works on macOS 14 and 15. Voice features are not available in TypeSeer for Windows.
Download the required language packs before going offline. Paid TypeSeer licenses remain active offline for up to seven days after a successful online check.
