Comparison
TypeSeer and Microsoft Copilot, compared
Copilot is an assistant you ask for things. TypeSeer is autocomplete that finishes your sentences while you type. They overlap less than you might think.
We make TypeSeer, so read this with that in mind. This page is about Copilot in Microsoft 365 and Windows, not GitHub Copilot, which writes code.
What Copilot does
Copilot drafts emails and documents from a prompt, rewrites and summarises text, and answers questions about your files, meetings and chats. You ask it in a side panel or a chat. Your requests are processed in Microsoft’s cloud.
What TypeSeer does
TypeSeer suggests the rest of your sentence as grey text right at your cursor, as you type. Press Tab to take a word. There’s nothing to ask and no panel to open.
- The AI runs on your own Mac or PC. What you type isn’t sent to us, to Microsoft or to anyone else.
- It works in almost any app, not only Microsoft’s: Slack, Discord, Gmail in your browser, Apple Mail and more.
- It works offline, once the model has downloaded.
- It learns how you write, if you turn that on, and you can see everything it learned.
Where Copilot is the better choice
- Drafting from nothing. Ask for a first draft and get one. TypeSeer only continues what you start.
- Summaries. Meetings, long threads and documents. TypeSeer doesn’t summarise.
- Your company’s data. Copilot can search files, mail and chats you have access to.
Where TypeSeer is the better choice
- Text that mustn’t leave the device. Nothing you type goes to a cloud service.
- Typing faster all day. Suggestions appear as you type, with no prompt to write.
- Apps outside Microsoft 365. TypeSeer works across the apps you use, not only Office.
- Simple pricing. One app, from $3.99 a month, or $79.99 once for life. Check Microsoft’s site for Copilot’s current prices.
For companies
If your company can’t send text to a cloud AI, TypeSeer for Business runs the AI on a computer in your office instead. Every Mac and Windows laptop on your network gets suggestions from it. It’s in beta now.
